Flail Cutter Attachment

The Bobcat? flail cutter is the ideal attachment for clearing brush and small trees up to three inches in diameter while distributing the cut material evenly. With a cutting width of 79 inches, the flail cutter is perfect for lakefront property, construction sites, power lines, road right of ways, trails, and other areas needing brush or small tree removal. This efficient attachment is designed to excel in many applications where overgrown brush needs to be removed, including agriculture, construction, landscaping, utility, rental, and personal property maintenance.

How Does it Work?

Rather than rotate, its hammers cut vertically so debris is thrown down on the grounds and not out to the side spreading the material more evenly to provide a fine finish. The flail cutter can be operated while traveling in either forward or reverse

Features and Benefits

  • Full-width tapered rear roller provides greater turning ability during operation making it easier to maneuver in tight areas.
  • Three cutting levels allows for several options of cutting heights for a variety of land and brush types.
  • A variable displacement motor allows the flail cutter to be "tuned in" to your machine, depending on its hydraulic capacity. A feature critical to the rental market, a control on the attachment connects to the motor and enables the operator to adjust the hydraulic flow from 17 to 37 gpm. This makes it possible to use the flail cutter with an assortment of carriers with different hydraulic flow capacities.
  • Floating linkage is standard on the flail cutter. This, along with the attachment's compact deck length allow the flail cutter to float over ground contours, maintaining surface contact, permitting the cutter up to ten degrees of oscillation and optimal performance.
  • Adjustable rear hatch allows operators to vary the size of discharge material, ranging from small, for mulching applications, to coarse, for high-performance cutting.
  • The automatic blade shut-off device shuts off the hammers when the flail cutter is raised approximately ten inches off the ground preventing any debris from injuring the driver.
  • Safety compliance. The flail cutter complies with the SAE J1001 standard for industrial flail mowers.
  • The flail cutter also offers durability and serviceability to its customers because of the easy-to open cover that allows instant access to drive components and maintenance areas along with a rugged .25 in. thick steel deck design for maximum strength in tough clearing jobs.

Operating Tips

  • As a safety feature, the rear roller must be on the ground to operate the cutter
  • Upon receiving the flail mower it is advised that the rear gate is opened fully (it arrives fully shut.) Doing this will proved a faster yet rougher cut. If the user desires further processing of material they can easily adjust the gate to the optimum desired level.
  • The "fully closed" position is generally used for mulching, pruning, and when fine homogeneous mulch is desired. The "closed" position is most efficient with short vegetation, since the material being mulched will circulate between the rotor and roller. The "fully open" position, the cut material exits the flail cutter as fast as possible over the roller. Also the best performance in tall vegetation is achieved in the "fully open" position.
